Silloth Football Club back Patrick Brough
Academy graduate Patrick Brough became our first player to be sponsored ahead of the 2014/15 season and everyone at the club would like to thank Silloth Football Club for backing Patrick in what will be an important campaign for the first year professional.
Paul Donald, from SFC, spoke to us about the decision to sponsor Patrick last week.
"Patrick played for us up to u10 level, before he moved into the Carlisle United Academy, so we are really pleased to be able to sponsor him during his first season of professional football," he said.
"Patrick's family all support the club, and his brother Sam plays for us, so everyone here felt it was the right thing to do."
"He's the first player from our club to make it into the professional ranks at Brunton Park so we're all really proud of him," he continued. "We had Andy Hardman a few years ago, who got very close to a contract, so it's nice for us as a club to see this happen.
"When we go to other clubs we see shirts on the walls from players who have made it so it will be good for us to be able to do that as well.
"We wanted to help to give him the best start in the professional game we could and our sponsorship will hopefully give him a bit of a boost ahead of the new season. We want him to know that we're all right behind him and really proud of what he's achieved so far."
"A lot of our lads come to the Carlisle games, if we aren't playing, and I think it's made them all even more excited about the season ahead. It's a little connection to the club and it feels like we're doing our bit for a local lad as well," he added.
"It gives everybody an extra buzz to see him in the squad and, when he's from your home town, you do feel really proud. The lads at our club have all watched Patrick grow up and it's something everybody is really pleased about.
"We haven't sponsored a player before, as a club, so linking up with Patrick is a huge thing for us. Hopefully he will continue to progress this season and we wish him every success as he sets off on this next stage of his career."
