United through to last 32
After hundreds of qualifying matches, the Soccer AM Futsal Cup Powered by NCS has reached its final 32 clubs.
And Carlisle United have been drawn in group 8 alongside Rotherham United, Bradford City and Southend United.
The second round of the Futsal Cup kicks-off on 21 January as 16-19 year-olds at Football League, Premier League and Football Conference clubs prepare to showdown at Birmingham International Futsal Arena.
From scenes of despair as clubs fall short, to scenes of euphoria as clubs progress, the Cup drama is set to continue with the best of the action screened on Saturday’s Soccer AM from January 25th to May 3rd when the winning team will be awarded with the prize of a playing tour of Barcelona, one of Europe’s futsal capitals.
The Football League Trust (FLT) together with National Citizen Service (NCS) has formed an exciting partnership with Soccer AM, to form the inaugural Soccer AM Futsal Cup Powered by NCS.
NCS is a once–in-a-lifetime opportunity open to all 15 and 17 year olds across England. It is a unique two or three week full-time programme focused around fun and discovery, plus 30 hours committed to a community project that benefits both young people and society. On this government backed programme, participants build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and adventures, making new friends, learning new skills and contributing to their community.
NCS Marketing Director, Natasha Kizzie, added: “We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with the Soccer AM Futsal Cup. Futsal and NCS alike are great ways to help unlock young people’s potential by developing a wide number of skills which will be called upon throughout life, skills including teamwork, confidence and motivation. We hope that our Soccer AM Futsal partnership with The Football League Trust helps to raise awareness of the sport and encourage a new wave of fans to seize the opportunity to say yes and discover something new.”
The Football League Trust delivers NCS through 44 of its football clubs and organisations across England (NCS FLT), with 17 of the 32 final clubs being NCS teams. Leeds United are one of the clubs delivering NCS and the reigning national champions of FLT Futsal League 1.
The Soccer AM Futsal Cup Powered by NCS is comprised of student-players participating in the pioneering Football League Trust Education & Futsal programme. The programme provides 16-19 year olds with the opportunity to score both on and off the pitch, as they study towards a BTEC Diploma in Sport with their local professional club’s community scheme. Graduates of the programme often progress to University, overseas football scholarships and careers within the vibrant sports industry. Football lovers moving into sixth-form education are encouraged to apply, as places start to fill up for next season at clubs across the country.
The Football League Trust’s General Manager, Mike Evans, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that NCS is sponsoring the Soccer AM Futsal Cup. Together NCS and our Education & Futsal programme aim to support the personal development of thousands of 15 to 19 year olds across England and, through our partnership with Soccer AM, we look forward to inspiring even more young people to get involved.”
