Gateshead man to team up with United
United manager Greg Abbott tonight confirmed that Josh Gillies will join the Cumbrians for pre-season training tomorrow as the club continues to discuss a permanent move for the highly-rated right sided attacker.Gillies, 22, has spent his entire career in non-league football and has openly admitted that he now feels ready to take on the challenge of life in the Football League.
The Sunderland-born player enjoyed an excellent season last term as he bagged 15 goals for Gateshead and he can also boast a strike in the FA Vase at Wembley as he helped Whitley Bay to retain the trophy for a second successive season prior to his move to the Blue Square Bet Premier side.
"Josh wants to play for Carlisle United and that's important for us and him," Abbott said.
"There are still one or two things to resolve away from the football side of things between ourselves and Gateshead and hopefully that can be done sooner rather than later.
"He will come and train with us and meet the lads, and he'll get a feel for what the place is like. It's just a case of then taking things forward once an agreement is reached at club level."
