It was a trip across to Boroughbridge in Yorkshire for the final U18 pre-season friendly of the summer with a tough test expected.United - Brass (Eccles 46), Thomson, Marshall (Scott 46), Dickson, Moyes (Chisholm 46), Wallace (Hodgson 46), Dempsey, Hammell (McEvoy 55), Blackburn, Jackson (White 46), Elliott.
+++++++
First half - United worked hard but struggled to make an impact in the home box and Boroughbridge grabbed an early lead when Matt Thompson found the back of the net.
Second half - A number of substitutions brought more in the way of attacking momentum and Kyle Dempsey was unlucky when he rattled the woodwork with 60 minutes on the clock. The keeper did well to recover and save the follow up.
United were made to pay for the miss almost immediately as Boroughbridge sent a long ball forward. Danny Eccles misjudged the flight and Thompson nipped in to grab his second with a well-timed header.
The Cumbrians pulled themselves right back into it on 73 minutes when Hodgson delivered a beauty of a cross. Jason Blackburn did the rest with a lovely header.
And it was all square on 76 minutes when Danny Hodgson was clipped as he went round the keeper. He dusted himself off to crunch the spot kick home.
Carlisle took the lead for the first time on the night when they made it three goals in a blistering five minute spell when Dempsey accepted an invitation to shoot. His 19 yard rasper snuggled sweetly in the bottom corner.
Jack Elliott almost made certain of the win when he curled a late dipping free kick over the wall but it was a deserved victory from an exciting game as the referee blew his whistle to a loud round of applause.
