GROUNDSMAN: Stadium Business Awards

Dave Mitchell shortlisted for Unsung Hero award

The nominations for TheStadiumBusiness Awards have been announced and we are delighted to confirm that Carlisle United's stadium manager Dave Mitchell has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Unsung Hero Award category.

Now in their fourth year, TheStadiumBusiness Awards are the only awards to recognise the whole spectrum of achievements from across the global stadium industry. Not only will the venue and event of the year be acknowledged but also individuals from behind the scenes and successful rising stars within the industry.

And, as if that isn't enough, our head groundsman is also waiting for news on the annual pitch of the year awards where, with a top three League One place already guaranteed, fingers are crossed that he'll be retaining the title for a magnificent third consecutive season.

“Every year we’re impressed by the incredible level of innovation and professionalism we witness during the nomination process and this year was no exception,” said Ian Nuttall, founder of TheStadiumBusiness Summit. “Nominees should be very proud of their achievements and we congratulate them all in reaching the shortlist.”

The winners will be announced at the Gala Awards Evening, held during TheStadiumBusiness Summit at The Point at Emirates Old Trafford Stadium on the 6 June 2013. Hundreds of nominations were considered to create the shortlists, which will be judged by an independent panel of industry figures, including:

• Dr. Bernie Mullin, Chairman and CEO, The Aspire Group
• Daniel Gidney, Chief Executive, Lancashire County Cricket Club
• Paul Latham, Chief Operating Officer (International), Live Nation Entertainment
• Sally Bolton, General Manager, Rugby League World Cup 2013
• Robb Heineman, CEO, Sporting Club
• Alexander Atamanenko, CEO, Donbass Arena
• David Campbell, CEO, Sport & Entertainment (UK) Limited
• Ian Nuttall (Chair) CEO, TheStadiumBusiness / Xperiology

Jonathan Davies, Sales & Marketing Director at event sponsor’s The Lindley Group: “We attended the awards last year in Turin and had a great experience. Lindley wanted to be involved going forward with the event as it is clearly a fantastic forum to socialise and network with senior players from across the stadia marketplace and widen knowledge about Lindley’s expertise in venue catering.”

Lisa Duffy from event sponsor’s Vision Events commented: “We are excited to be partnering with TheStadiumBusiness Summit and Awards and delighted that Xperiology has chosen to bring the event to the North West of England. We are proud to be a part of the delivery team for these events; events which will be attended by the leaders of the stadium industry. It promises to be a very exciting few days in Manchester, and we look forward to working in some of the city’s finest venues!”
