Workington Academy, representing Carlisle United Community Sports Trust, reached the semi-finals of the EFL Girls Cup Area Final at Poolfoot Farm on Monday, 13 January.
The Workington team triumphed in the local tournament in November with a dramatic penalty shootout win in the final against Trinity School.
A narrow 2-1 defeat to a strong Bolton Wanderers side in the last four saw the girls miss out on the final, but they showed fantastic resilience on the day in freezing conditions in Lancashire.
They got their first three points of the tournament with a 6-0 victory over Barrow in their third game after an opening defeat and draw.
A draw against Morecambe left the Blues' side with five points from four games at the halfway stage of the tournament, scoring seven goals in the process.
Victories against Accrington Stanley and Blackburn Rovers saw the United outfit fly up the table despite a loss to Blackpool, meaning a 1-1 draw with Bolton proved enough to finish in the top four and progress to the semi-finals.
The table-topping Trotters were the semi-final opponents, and two early Bolton goals proved too challenging to come back from despite a late Carlisle consolation.
Carlisle United Community Sports Trust's Soccer School Coordinator Sam Tickner said: "The girls showed brilliant effort and determination in testing conditions against some tough teams.
"To reach the semi-final stage is a great achievement, and they should be proud of their performance while representing their school and Carlisle United."
Workington Academy PE Teacher Emma Marshall added: "I am really proud of all the girls, especially in these conditions.
"They worked hard for each other, kept battling and never shied away while showing composure and confidence on the ball, supporting each other defensively."
