'UNITED IN MEMORIES' DEMENTIA CAFE INFORMATION

UNITED IN MEMORIES

Carlisle United Community Sports Trust, in collaboration with the club and CUSG, are launching a Dementia Cafe at the end of September.

'United in Memories' will act as an outlet for those affected by the illness, providing a supportive environment in the Study Centre at Brunton Park with staff having recently undertaken dementia-friendly training.

It offers an opportunity for those living with dementia to experience a range of activities while giving resources to carers and families.

The group will meet on the last Friday of every month between 12:00-2:00pm starting September 27th, 2024.

CUFCCST are delighted to add this session to their inclusion provision with support from Carlisle United Supporters' Group's Keith Ward, Dementia Friends' Kevin Walsh, Age UK's Joanne Rayson, and Judith Reay from the Alzheimer's Society.

EDI lead for the club and Community Sports Trust, Teresa Mulholland said: "We are thrilled to be introducing a dementia cafe here at Carlisle United.

"We are passionate about supporting our community and have been working with various organisations that have provided guidance on helping us create a supportive and welcoming space for people living with dementia and their families.

"We believe it can make a huge difference by providing not just practical support and information, but also companionship and understanding."

Carlisle United Supporters' Group's Keith Ward added: "I am a lifelong fan of Carlisle United, and dementia has entered my life on a number of occasions.

"The dementia cafe will provide opportunities for people to engage in conversations and activities while feeling supported through meeting people who are going through similar experiences.

"Reflecting on Carlisle United through the past and the present will hopefully generate meaningful discussions and enjoyable memories."

Carlisle Dementia Action Alliance Chair, Kevin Walsh said: “It's great to see Carlisle United helping those living with Dementia and their carers.

“I look forward to developing the relationship with the club and enabling more people to have a better awareness of the impact that dementia can have on the lives of so many in our community.”
