We spoke to Terell Thomas, ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with Port Vale at Brunton Park.
Speaking to CUTV, Terell spoke on a positive week and the belief in the camp:
“Everyone's positive, everyone's in good spirits, obviously coming off the back of two wins, two good performances, nothing but positivity and belief within the team that we can go on and get a positive result tomorrow.
“I think the two games that we've won have set up this occasion, and credit to all the fans who are coming on Saturday and getting behind the boys, it's massive, and we're really thankful of the support throughout the whole season as well. Obviously sometimes they let their feelings be known, which is perfectly fine, we know that they're to be behind us on Friday.”
Speaking on the Morecambe victory, Terell said:
“It kind of felt a bit like a home game at Morecambe, because they didn't really bring as many as I expected, I thought it might be more packed, but we really made it a great atmosphere. All the away games, especially the away games, they always turn up and credit to them.
Terell netted the second in that game, plucking a ball out of the air and finishing calmly. He gave us his view of it:
“As Jellis [Jack Ellis] put it back in, I saw the defender in front of me, I said to myself - he's going to miss this. And all the years of practice sort of came into one of getting the ball down and finishing. So, yeah, happy to do that, but also to get the three points and set up this game on Friday for us to push on again.”
Terell also spoke on his strong relationships with Sam Lavelle and Aaron Hayden:
“Yeah, all three of us, all the centre-backs, we all have a good relationship.
“So I think whoever steps in, there's not really much of a change in terms of the relationship and working together. We all try and work with each other and do the same thing. So, yeah, Aaron's come in and he's done really well and we've got a clean sheet on the weekend and hopefully we can get another clean sheet tomorrow.”
With Sam Lavelle’s injury, Terell has captained the side in each of the last two games, he spoke on how he’s found having the armband:
“Personally, t doesn't change me much. Regardless of if I'm captain or not, I'm still always talking to people, trying to give information, pulling people about.
“As a defender, you have to, it makes your game a bit easier. But it does give you that bit of more motivation, yes, but in terms of personally my own mentality, it's not something that I'm thinking about like I need to act a different way now.
Terell then moved on to discussing Port Vale, and the task at hand of a physical battle with their forwards:
“I don't mind a good battle.
“It's nice after the game when you shake the striker's hand and it's been a good battle, you've both put your all into it and he's a bit physical. But we know that they'll be a better team in terms of structurally rather than the last two games that we've won, so it requires a bit more understanding of how to go about what we want to do.
“Obviously, we're still going to bring energy, we're still going to give everything, but we understand that they are a good team, but we're not going to give them too much respect, you still need to know that they have things that can hurt you and we've worked on things on how to stop what they want to do.
“That gives you confidence going into the game as well, when you've looked at the other teams' strengths, weaknesses and stuff like that and worked on things and how to stop what they want to do, it gives you confidence to go into the game on the front foot.
Finally, Terell finished by speaking about the fans and the importance of their support tomorrow:
“Yeah, they [the fans] make 10 times the difference, even in games where obviously the result hasn't been the best and we're trying to get back into the game.
“The fans behind you give you a bit more energy, I don't know why, but the fans give you more energy and confidence as well. So I would say if you can, turn up and the ones that are already there coming tomorrow, just get behind the lads.”
