TERELL THOMAS SPEAKS AFTER ST MIRREN CLASH

TT

After our 2-2 draw with St Mirren, we spoke to one of the goalscorers - Terell Thomas.

He opened with some thoughts about the game, saying: “It was a good workout for the boys. I thought we performed really well in the first-half.

“Went a bit lax in the second-half for the goal, but I think overall we really enjoyed the game. I thought we played really well, moved the ball well, defensively were strong. Things we've worked on in training over the last couple of weeks, especially this week being at St Andrews, I think we really implemented it really well, what the gaffer wanted us to do.

“Overall, good minutes for everyone. My first 90 of the pre-season and for other boys as well.”

Harrison Neal opened the scoring with a well-taken goal, Terell had this to say: “Yeah, it was a great finish. Good move as well. Went into Charlie at the top, nice little flick around the corner. Stuff we've worked on in training, so it's nice to see things that we actually work on, helping us score goals.”

Of course, we then asked him about his goal, to which he responded: “It was nice, good deliveries. It fills all the boys in the box with confidence that we know we're going to get some good deliveries, because the boys taking the corners have got some quality in a dead ball situation.

“It gives us real confidence to attack it. Hit the area and it landed to me. Good thing it went in.”

United faced a real test in this one, against a good side, who's next fixture is in European competition.

“Yeah, you can see they're a good team. They've got quality around the pitch.

“I think they're in Europe this year, so you can see why in the way they play. I think we performed really well. We didn't really give them hardly anything in the first-half.

“They tinkered with it a bit in the second-half and caused us a bit of trouble. Overall, I think it's a really positive performance.”

The Blues showed fight to come from behind, the defender added: “You're not always going to be drawing or up in a game throughout the whole of the 46 games this season. It's good to see we've got that resilience about us and never-say-die type of mentality.”

Over 300 fans made the Friday night trip, Terell expressed his gratitude, saying: “I could hear them through the whole game. I know from seeing them being in other teams that they'll follow us everywhere.

“I really appreciate the support and it really gives us a starting point to go in games. When you go and know you've got the fans behind you coming to away games and definitely at home games.”

United travel to Rochdale in their next pre-season fixture on Saturday 27 July.

“Another chance to implement how we want to play. Get some more minutes into the legs for some other boys that didn't play as long. But another game to go and try and win and try and get a clean sheet.

“That's something I'm a bit frustrated about today that we didn't do, but it's always a good thing that there's not three points up for grabs.”

Terell’s header on 85 minutes was his second of pre-season after joining the club this summer.

We asked about the threat he carries in the opposition box, he responded: “Yeah, I try to be. As I said with the delivery, it gives you confidence as someone in the box to attack the ball and believe that you're going to get a head on it. So hopefully I haven't peaked too early.”

Thomas finished by chatting about how he’s settled into his new surroundings, stating: “There’s no negatives. No negatives within the whole group, between everyone. Good vibe within the camp.Yeah, I can say I'm fitting in well. Everything's sound.”
