SENSORY PACKS LOAN SCHEME LAUNCHED

SENSORY PACK

Carlisle United recognise that football is a game that brings people together, uniting communities in the love of sport.

But for some fans, the matchday experience can be overwhelming. The loud cheers, bright lights, and bustling crowds can create sensory challenges, especially for individuals with autism, ADHD, or other sensory sensitivities.

Recognising this, Carlisle United’s EDI group are thrilled to announce the launch of the availability of ten sensory packs to loan to fans to ensure they can enjoy the beautiful game comfortably.

What are sensory packs?

The sensory packs are thoughtfully designed by our EDI team to help neurodiverse fans manage their environment during matches.

Each pack includes ear defenders to dampen the roar of the crowd, a fidget toy for self-regulation, and a stress ball to ease anxiety, an autograph book to draw/doodle, pack of cards and a Rubik’s cube.

Additionally, an easy-to-read stadium guide is included to help fans navigate their surroundings with confidence.

By providing these sensory packs, we aim to make the game inclusive for everyone. This initiative not only supports neurodiverse fans but also raises awareness about the importance of accessibility and inclusion in sports.

The development of these sensory packs was informed by feedback from neurodiverse individuals and their families fed back to our EDI representatives.

How do I access a sensory pack?

Fans can request the loan of a sensory pack via our EDI Lead Teresa Mulholland, email edi@carlisleunitedcst.co.uk.

There are ten packs available to loan and these will be on a first come first served basis and will include a booking in and out system.

All individual items included in the packs are also available to purchase via the club shop as well as readymade sensory bags should you wish to purchase your own. Please check out the club shop for further details.

On Boxing day, we will be joined by Bee Unique Autism Charity as well as Workington Falcons All-stars pan disability team.

Our very own EDI Autism Representative Ross Mattinson will be delivering a workshop to the fan base and stewards on his lived experience with Autism.

CUFC EDI lead Teresa Mulholland said: "A huge thank you to Nigel Clibbens for purchasing the sensory packs for us to loan out and to Stefanie Mclean from the club shop for all her help in putting the packs together.

"We are so proud of our EDI volunteers who were influential in implementing this initiative of the sensory packs and delivering important educational sessions such as this to our club and fan base."

Chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: "This is a new initiative for us as we try to reach more fans and make the matchday accessible for everyone.

"It h been led by the fan reps working together with the Community Sports Trust and the club, so it’s a good example of collaboration to make a difference."
