We spoke to Mike Williamson, following our draw with Colchester.
“The way we defended for 95 minutes was incredible," he said. "The last ditch defending, the bodies on the line, it's what we've come to expect now of that group.
“I thought we were really good in the first half. I thought we moved the ball, I thought we dominated the territory quite well. Obviously just couldn't make the most of our chances, and that happens when you're in these periods.
“But you've just got to keep rolling your sleeves up and that's exactly what they did. We didn't have the control that we wanted to in the second-half, but you could see the character and the personality was there.
“For me, we’ve just got to try and keep working hard to create more clear-cut chances and to increase our chances of scoring when we're putting balls in the box, because it's been difficult.
“I've never criticised anyone for the last bit, the execution. But we have got to improve in our intensity to get the preparation right and to get our hips facing forward and play cleanly, but play intensely.”
A clean sheet is a real positive, and that was possible because of some superb saves from Harry Lewis. Mike spoke about that:
“He made some fantastic saves. I’m really, really happy with that. He's been brilliant since we've come in.
“And again, when you're in these periods, it's hard, but we need that character and that personality and we need people to pull us out when asked upon. And that's what we got from the boys coming off the bench as well. I thought they put a shift in and we've got to keep working.”
We asked Mike if he was happy with the point. He answered: “Based off the first half, and clear-cut chances, we were disappointed.
“But coming here, it's very hard. Obviously, we've been here a few times this season already. So, yeah, we're happy with the point and two clean sheets in two away games and four points out of that. So it's a good return and we take the positives and move on.”
Over 300 Blues fans made the long journey to Essex, Mike spoke about them: “It never ceases to amaze. They're brilliant. They turn up in their numbers and if they're not in the numbers, they still sound like they're in the numbers because they've got a lot of passion.
“And I want to really thank them for the amount they travel. It was incredible to hear. Just disappointing we couldn't give them something to enjoy the journey home with.”
Jordan Jones was absent from the squad, Mike explained his situation: “Yeah, he's picked up a little tear in his calf. Hopefully, it's not going to be too long, but we've just got to keep assessing that.”
And on Dom Sadi, who was on the bench: “Dom wasn't very well yesterday. So it's just kind of precautionary, put him on the bench and just try and look after him.”
Speaking om Tuesday’s game against Wigan, Mike said: “I think the first thing we need to look at is to keep improving and working and making sure that it's an opportunity for us to keep the detail in and getting the lads as clear of an understanding as possible.
“But ultimately, we're down to our bare bones at the minute. We really are. So there'll be a few changes at least. We've just got to assess as there's a few sore bodies walking off the pitch there.”
One of those sore bodies was Harrison Biggins, Mike said: “He was walking very gingerly in the changing room. I'm sure it will take 24, 48 hours to settle down.
“Sam [Lavelle] picked up a knock. So hopefully, he'll be okay. But yeah, there were a few bumps and bruises there."
