MARK HUGHES SPEAKS FOLLOWING BROMLEY WIN

.

We spoke to Mark Hughes following our win against Bromley.

Speaking to CUTV, he said: "I thought we were excellent all day long, we could have won the game quite comfortably really.

"Had a few chances towards the end - some balls and areas chasing after us and trying to make things happen but there was only one footballing team out there today and yeah, really pleased for the lads.

"I thought they put a huge shift in. Showed good quality as well, were brave in and out of possession and yeah, took the game away from them really.

"Maybe we've been questioned about whether or not we had the ability to put a performance in like that, I think we've probably proved a lot of people wrong now. The only thing with it is we need to, obviously that's the standard set now, so we can't dip from that.

"It would be very difficult for any team to go up against us today in my view because I thought our general play was excellent, so we've just got to replicate it for the nine games we've got left."

On Stephen Wearne's opener, Mark stated: "I said before the game that first goals help shape the game and shape the confidence of the team and yeah, we were disappointed with their equaliser, could have been avoided and we just, probably as a consequence of the season we've had, we had a little bit of a wobble just then but picked ourselves up again and went again and I thought second-half we were fantastic.

"These things happen and sometimes opportunities present themselves to the opposition and they're able to get back on level terms when they don't deserve that. In terms of the percentage of the play that they had, they play on percentages clearly, just putting balls in areas hoping things will happen and you as an opposition make mistakes, we probably made a couple but yeah, it would have been a travesty if we hadn't won that game."

On United's second through Callum Whelan, Hughes said: "We're in the right places, we're getting shots off, I'm not quite sure how many shots we had, 15, 16 I think, so good efforts as well.

"I thought it was a really good performance from start to finish, everybody played a part. I thought they were really determined to get a result today and I think everybody saw that in their manner and their ability today.

"It won't be pretty at times, other times opposition will just hit and hope and sometimes you can make mistakes because you have to defend those balls constantly and sometimes things will fall for them but you earn your luck in my view and today we earned our luck, we deserved to win today.

"Really pleased for everybody, I thought it was a huge effort and we need more of the same on Tuesday.

"We've just got to pick it up from where we left off and take the game away from MK. We're more than capable of doing that.

"We've got an opportunity to do something special if we grasp the opportunity to play like we did today. I think, as I said, teams in this league, everybody would have struggled against us today.

"I see good signs."

Finally, on the supporters, Mark said: "I mean, in fairness, we gave them more to get behind today. But, in fairness, they don't need too much encouragement.

"They were great today."
