Ahead of Saturday's clash against Newport County, we spoke to Mark Hughes.
Speaking to CUTV, firstly on Elliot Embleton's red card, he said: "It's one of those unfortunate ones.
"Embo put his hand up and clearly he did make contact with the boy. I don't think it was intentional, it was just one of those things. You hang a leg and with the intention of just nicking the ball away. He's unfortunately just gone down the back of the lads Achilles. Not with any great force, we felt.
"The lad was able to continue, don't even think the trainer came on for him. So it couldn't have been that bad."
Moving onto an injury update, Hughes said: "Matty [Dennis] - he's had a couple of episodes where he gets this feeling in his hamstring and he feels that he's compromised by that. He has had previous injuries there so he's conscious of those.
"It's settled down remarkably well, he's still feeling a little bit of that. He's uncomfortable on occasions but we're just trying to loosen up. We don't know if he's going to be an option at the weekend, it's certainly not what we thought it was which was an acute injury.
"If it was a hamstring then he would have been out for a number of weeks. Thankfully it's not that but clearly he's finding it a little bit awkward in terms of his movement. There's a little bit of discomfort there so hopefully we'll be able to do something about that.
"Sam [Lavelle] has had it scanned. He's gone over on the ankle and the ligaments have compromised a little bit. It's very swollen but I think it's one of those that once we're able to manage the pain and the swelling goes down then he should be back relatively quickly. So we hope that's the case.
"There's a little bit of damage in there but it's one of those that the ankle ligaments usually sort themselves out and it just needs a little bit of time. Like I said, once the swelling goes down and you can manage the level of pain that Sam would have to play with then he should be okay again.
"We just need to see how it settles down and if we can get the swelling away, if the swelling dissipates quite quickly then he's got a fair chance. He's been stiff in his back for a number of days but we feel that's going to resolve itself and he should be okay.
"Georgie [Kelly] will be pleased that he was able to get that amount of minutes under his belt. It's important for him. Obviously it hasn't gone great in terms of game time for him since he's come here so it was an important step for him.
"He came through okay. Like I said, at half-time I had to take him off because we had to protect the option of making more substitutions at the end of the game. Then we were down to 10 men so that was the thinking behind that but he wasn't compromised by anything.
"It probably helped him in fairness because you could try and keep him on for 60-65 minutes and that's when he's at risk. But having got a good 45 minutes in he's probably good to go for longer now.
"Aaron [Hayden] was in for the first day today. He's back in training."
Looking towards Saturday's clash, he stated: "I've got to bring faces into the team because of the injuries and the suspension so there's opportunities there. It's over to them.
"They've had a different season [Newport County], they probably feel, but they've still got threats. Everybody in this league has players that can hurt you if you give them time and space so they've got decent ability in the top end of the pitch.
"Good pace, good set plays, good delivery from back areas so yeah, as with all teams in League Two, they have good players."
