Two Chorley goals prevented United from taking any points on Sunday at Creighton Rugby Club.
Carlisle came into Sunday’s game with a depleted squad but were still hopeful of producing a positive display.
United were down to a squad of twelve, but it represented another chance for all our development team players to make their mark.
The Cumbrians got off to a positive start on 4 minutes with Bessie Best’s attempt from range looking like it had looped over the 'keeper into the back of the net, but her effort just dipped over the bar.
The visitors, who currently sit third in the league table, broke United’s early dominance by hitting the Blues on the counter attack on 13 minutes and a well-placed ball from their striker found their left-winger at the back post for a tap-in to put the Magpies ahead.
Chances from both sides were limited throughout the first half with United having most of the play but not being able to capitalise on periods of possession.
An injury to Katie Barbour on 44 minutes left United with only the option of one substitute for the second-half.
HALF-TIME: United 0-1 Chorley
The second-half followed very similarly to the first with United controlling the play without being able to conjure many chances on goal.
Chorley were clinical again on 49 minutes when a generous bounce put their striker in on goal and she made no mistake to double their lead.
The visitors could’ve gone further ahead on 55 minutes, but a superb Emma Kenyon save kept the scoreline the same.
The Cumbrians pushed for a way back into the game and went closest on 65 minutes, when a great run from Chelsea Norris opened up the Chorley backline, she slipped the ball into Alicia Messenger but her shot went just wide.
Another injury for United, as winger Chloe Scott was also taken off injured on 80 minutes meant that Carlisle were without substitutes.
Despite many promising attacks, Carlisle didn’t create any more clear-cut chances.
The Blues can be proud of their defensive effort against a strong Chorley attack.
