We spoke to Jon Mellish, following the defeat to AFC Wimbledon.
Jon began speaking about the game, saying: “It's terrible, really. I think we were second best all over.
“We’ve got no one to blame but ourselves. We just weren't good enough, right from the start. To give away set plays against a team like Wimbledon, from the first goal we never recovered and never got going.”
We asked Jon what the reason was, for such a slow start, he said: “I'm not sure. You can't really make any excuses. I don't think there is any.
“We were second best. We let them play their game and we suffered for it straight away.
It just can’t happen.
“Things just didn't seem to work. I think we did get out at times, but we just maybe didn't move it quick enough. It just wasn't working and there's no one to blame but us.
“Obviously we're trying to play a new way and I think when it clicks, it'll be really good, but it's obviously just a process at the minute and you've got to stick by it.
“I think when you have a big, horrible team and that's a massive part of their game, to give away three set plays is criminal. Against a team like this you're going to suffer for it and we could never recover from it.”
We asked about the mood in the dressing room, and what the gaffer had said. Jon responded:
“Obviously it's down in there, it's not a good atmosphere, but the gaffer's saying we've got to stick together, it's a process.
“And the staff are saying that they've been players, they've gone through it and now we've got to stick our chest out, put our heads up and show people what we're about. We can do it and we'll come back and give it another go.
“We’ve Just got to dust ourselves down, we've got a full week to prepare for it and, like I say, the training's been really good so far and everyone's taking it in and taking it on board and wants to do it, so it's just about keeping going.
"We've got really good staff that have come in and the training's a lot better and, like I say, we've got to stick by it. I'm very confident it's going to click, but days like today just kind of happen.”
Ahead of Harrogate, Jon said: “I think it's good that we've got a full week. We can recover from it, look at it and where we went wrong and just implement again the things the staff want from us, how we're going to play and we’ve got a full week of work on it and I'm sure we'll be ready come Harrogate andi t'll be a different performance.”
Finally, Jon spoke on the incredible support once again, as 792 Blues fans made the journey to London:
“They’ve probably got every right to boo, watching something like that. They spend a lot of their money and time coming down and we produce something like that.
“Obviously, we’ve let them down, let ourselves down, the staff and everyone, but we've just got to regroup and we've got a good home game coming up to give it a good go.
“I know it's tough right now, we're at the bottom, but you've just got to stick by it like you always do and I'm sure it'll come good.
“Everything's there for it to be good. So, like I say, when it clicks, I'm pretty sure we'll go on a good run.”
