Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Glen Johnson as first team Goalkeeper Coach.
Johnson, 38, started his coaching career with CP Baltimore in the United States and has also worked overseas in India at Pune FC.
He then returned to England to work with the likes of Braintree, Boreham Wood, Gillingham and Dagenham and Redbridge.
He joined Queen’s Park in 2021 where he was Head of Goalkeeping, and joins United having left the Glasgow club.
During his time at Queen’s Park, he was a Coach Education Tutor for the Scottish FA and holds the UEFA A GK Licence and the UEFA B Outfield Licence.
Manager Paul Simpson said: “When we advertised the role we had some really strong applicants but Glen really impressed in the interview process.
“I’m really impressed with him and his development ideas he’s got. He wants to total buy into the football club in terms of working with the academy to hopefully bring the next James Trafford or Dean Henderson through.
“He’ll be very good for Harry, Gabe and Jude. They all need coaching and development, and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition to the staff.
“He met Harry and Gabe weeks ago, and he was the first one to meet Jude to get a gauge of his personality, and he’s already had training sessions with Harry and Gabe to get them back out onto the grass. He’s really enthusiastic about his work, as were Dave Timmins and Paul Gerrard, and I’m sure he’ll be a real positive influence on the goalkeepers.”
