Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Grimsby Town, we spoke to midfielder Dylan McGeouch.
Speaking to CUTV, he said: “I’m looking forward to it, obviously hoping to build on last week after a good week's training.
“We'll sit down obviously in the next few days and get the plan together and hopefully we can go out on Saturday and build on the three points we got last week.
“We can't get too carried away. After last week we need to work hard and obviously take on a lot of information that the manager and the staff have been giving to us and stamp our game plan on the game.
“So yeah, it'll be a tough game, but hopefully, as I said, we can build on it.”
Both sides are coming into this weekend’s contest off the back of a victory and are aiming to make it back-to-back wins.
“Obviously it'll be competitive, we know how the game is.
“As I said, we've got a wee buzz about the place this week with the win last week and hopefully we can build on that and keep learning from the manager and the staff on how we want to play and go about things.
“I'm sure they'll be doing the same as well, but hopefully we can come out with three points.”
Speaking on training so far this week, Dylan said: “It's been good. It's been lively. The tempo and stuff like that has been great.
“Obviously a new manager with new ideas and different voices. So yeah, it's bright and there’s exciting times ahead.
“Obviously [some of] the boys got a run out on Tuesday and then we'll be all back together today and tomorrow. But I think, obviously, just work on how the manager wants to play and how he wants his teams to play and for us to understand it and execute it.
“I think, obviously, in training, we've been working on a lot of the concepts and what he's wanting to put across.
“So far, it's been great. I think the boys have responded to it and taken it on board - a lot of video and stuff like that and visual stuff. So yeah, it's been great.
“Learning on the pitch and off the pitch as well and hopefully we can put it together on Saturday.”
Today marks one week since the arrival of Mike Williamson and his coaching team, when asked about the early stages, McGeouch said: “I think everyone's excited.
“You can see with the tempo and training and stuff like that, as I said earlier, fresh ideas and fresh voices and I think everyone's excited going forward.
“Obviously, on Saturday, we only had two days with the manager and I think already you can see some of the concepts and what he's wanting to put across to his team. Hopefully we can build on that or look more like a team that he wants and the way he wants us to play. I think the boys are buying into it.”
Assessing our victory against Swindon in further detail, the midfielder stated: “It was great. As I said, we only had a couple of days with the manager and a long bus journey down on the Friday.
“We've seen a lot of good stuff. I think at times we had to roll our sleeves up and throw ourselves in front of the ball a lot of times and make good saves and dig in. And then when we had the ball on the football side, I think we've seen a lot of good parts of play and how he wants his teams to look.
“It was only a couple of days working together, but we've seen a lot of good stuff.
“Just to get that winning feeling again. Obviously, when you've not won in a few weeks, it's tough and you can lose the belief. But the new manager coming in gave us a bounce. The boys are excited.
“We put a performance in. I think there were two sides of it. We played well at times and then when we had to roll our sleeves up, we did that.
“We showed a lot of guts as well and hopefully we can build on the other side when we get the ball and what it looks like as a team.”
When asked about adapting to the new style of play personally, he said: “I think obviously the way the manager wants to play and the way his teams have played previously, hopefully it will suit me.
“Trying to get on the ball and having a lot of the possession and try to build and play through the line. So yeah, I've really enjoyed it.
“I'm looking forward to learning as well off the pitch and on the pitch on the concepts and how he wants to do things.
“It's been great so far and I'm looking forward to the season ahead.”
Last time out at Brunton Park, Dylan provided a superb assist for Charlie Wyke’s second goal of the day.
“Sometimes my position doesn't allow me to get up the pitch as much. It's more the build-up phase when we're attacking, just making sure we're secure at the back and sweeping up.
“But at times when I find myself higher up the pitch, hopefully I can add more attacking options with assists or hopefully some goals, you never know.
“I’m just getting to grips with the way the manager wants to play and build on that and hopefully my performances can keep building and getting better and if I can chip in with a few assists or a few goals, it'll be a great season.”
Despite United’s slow start to the campaign, it's been made clear that promotion is still the aim.
“I think that's got to be our only focus this season. Obviously, we didn't get off to the best of starts in the first few weeks, but I think on Saturday, if we can keep building and keep getting three points, that's got to be our aim for the end of the season.”
Finally, ahead of Saturday’s game against the Mariners, McGeouch said: Just come out, enjoy it. Back the team, as they always do. You don't need to ask much of the fans.
“They're always there in numbers and they're always backing the team. But hopefully, last Saturday, we can build on that and the fans can buy into that as well and we go together, go forward together.”
