We spoke to Dan Adu-Adjei following our 1-0 win over Barrow.
Giving his initial thoughts, he stated: "It feels great, especially to do that at home in front of a really good crowd, obviously a local derby as well.
"I think we showed a lot of positive signs but we’ve still got a lot more to come, we can still improve and we know that, so I'm really happy to get our first win and hopefully we can gain confidence from that going into our next games.”
“The derby game is always going to be bigger than any normal game, but we just have to take it as just a normal game, so we’ve just got to take confidence from the fact that we did it in front of a really good crowd and it was a big game, so yeah, just really happy to get the win."
As we spoke to Dan post-match, the atmosphere was still brilliant outside with supporters celebrating in the Fan Zone.
“It's really nice to see the fans all excited and just smiling, it feels really good and hopefully that just gives everyone the confidence of what we're trying to achieve this season and that it is possible and that we all hopefully do it.
"It's my first home league goal in senior football, so that felt really good and it was really nice to see the fans all happy after the goal and that definitely gave us a real boost to go and get that clean sheet and get the three points.
“It gives me a lot of confidence, I think as a striker when you start scoring goals and playing well you just build up that confidence and that just helps you in your next performances because you know you've got that faith that if you get a chance you will score it, so hopefully I can use that to give me more confidence going into next week and the games after that.
"A few times when the ball went in behind, I fouled the defender so I just thought to stay away from him and he went down, I won it so I drove him towards the box, I saw Chaz but the defender was sort of blocking it off so I thought I'd have a shot and thankfully it went in.”
The young attacker gave the opposition headaches all day. A notable point came in the first-half when a brilliant drop of the shoulder got him away from the Barrow right-back.
“That time I crossed it quite early and the gaffer told me to drive more and drive towards the box and that's what I did the time I got the opportunity the second time and obviously it was good advice and it led to me scoring.”
The energy and hassling of defenders was something we saw from Adu-Adjei all afternoon. We asked if that’s something we can expect from him throughout the remainder of the campaign, he responded: "Yes, definitely.
"That's what I want to do, just cause mayhem and give defenders problems and I think the way we play suits that and playing off Chaz, and the service that I'm getting is really good so I can hopefully just keep doing that and keep building off this performance.”
Next weekend, United travel to face MK Dons, aiming to make it back-to-back league wins. Looking ahead to that match, the forward said: “I think football is all about momentum and just building off past performances and getting that first three points is the most important.
“So again, like I said, it give us that confidence and gets the fans excited now to keep backing us for the rest of the season.”
United were backed strongly during the Cumbrian derby with 9,813 supporters in attendance at Brunton Park. Speaking on the exceptional support, Dan added: "It was great, especially after that goal and even before that. They were right behind us the whole game. From minute one to minute 90, even when they scored the offside goal - it's really good to hear them and all that support and hopefully we can pay that back with more performances like that.”
Talking on next Saturday's opponents in more detail, he said: "It's obviously a really good stadium to play in and will hopefully be a really good game for us and hopefully we can get three points again.
“It's probably another physical side and they'll probably be really good technically as well, so we've just got to try and find a way to get a win and build off this performance.
“I think we all have no doubt that the fans will be wanting to do the same. I'm sure they'll travel in their numbers once again as well.
"Hopefully we can get as many fans as we can down there and just try and intimidate them as much as we can.
“Again, like I said today, we did play well but we've still got more to come, so hopefully we can improve for the next game and keep pushing and get another three points.”
