CUMBRIA HEALTH IN FAN ZONE

.

Carlisle United hosted Cumbria Health in the Northern Competitions Fan Zone before Saturday’s game against Swindon Town to hand out CVD self-test kits and offer health checks.

The CVD self-test kits focus on cardiovascular health working to identify high cholesterol or a potential risk of heart disease.

Throughout the lead-up to kick-off, there was a fantastic take-up of self-test kits and health checks, which are vital preventative measures for people to stay healthy and increase awareness around the importance of cardiovascular health.

EDI lead for the club and Carlisle United Community Sports Trust, Teresa Mulholland said: “Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains one of the leading causes of illness and death worldwide, many cases are preventable with early detection and lifestyle changes. This is why we partnered up with Cumbria Health to promote cardiovascular health checks, as these checks are more important than ever.

“The kits/screenings are a great way to provide early detection and can identify risks like high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes before they become serious problems.

“Continuing to collaborate with health organisations and providing the opportunity such as we did on Saturday in the Fan Zone, will help to ensure more people understand the importance of regular check-ups and how to reduce their risk.”

Business Manager at Cumbria Health, Phil Salmon said: “It’s a really important part of our preventive work to help people stay fit and healthy.

“We all know people who have been affected by heart disease and lost people to heart attacks.

“Identifying risks early on is really key to getting good treatment and helping people stay well.”
