On Saturday, Carlisle United and the University of Cumbria came together to attend Cumbria Pride 2024.
Teresa Mulholland, United's EDI Lead and Lee McDermott, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer for UoC, were present at the event to promote the continued collaboration with Cumbria Pride and the LGBTQ+ community.
Our local MP, Julie Minns, popped by to say hello and talk about all things Carlisle United and is looking forward to joining us at a home fixture soon.
We spoke to many people at the event about Carlisle United and their interest in football and the many different community provisions we provide.
The University were also sharing information on The White Ribbon campaign, which is a global movement to end men's violence against women. The university gained their White Ribbon UK accreditation in June 2022.
As both organisations have been supporting Cumbria Pride for a number of years, this was the first year our organisations have collaborated on a joint stall. This was a great way to build upon our new partnership with the University of Cumbria as part of our commitment to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding.
Teresa Mulholland said: "At Carlisle United, equality, diversity and inclusion is at the forefront of everything we do.
"Attending events such as Cumbria Pride allows us the opportunity to work alongside other partners and to gather the thoughts and ideas from the LGBTQ+ community and put those into action."
Lee McDermott added: “The University of Cumbria is committed to providing an inclusive environment, which we outline in our University Inclusivity Statement.
"We really value attending Cumbria Pride as it enables further interaction with members of our local community and showcases our visible support of LGBTQ+ equality.
"It was fantastic to attend in collaboration with Carlisle United as part of our new partnership and to celebrate Cumbria Pride turning 15 in the same month our LGBTQ+ Staff Network | University of Cumbria turned 5.”
