CARLISLE UNITED LEADS SUSTAINABLE REMODEL OF BRUNTON PARK

Carlisle United are proud to unveil details of it's sustainability-focused remodel of Brunton Park, the club's cherished home ground.

Emphasising environmental stewardship, CUFC has partnered with contractors who share a commitment to sustainable practices.

Key features of CUFC's sustainability initiatives include:

  • Energy Efficient Welfare Facilities: CUFC has installed cutting-edge welfare facilities at the site, incorporating recycled materials, advanced insulation, PIR lighting, and energy-efficient heaters with automatic shut-off capabilities.
  • Waste Reduction and Recycling: Through collaboration with North-West Recycling, CUFC aims to divert over 95% of project waste from landfills. Surplus materials are donated to Rebuild, a local charity, to promote circular economy principles.
  • Sustainable Timber: All timber used is sourced from suppliers certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), ensuring sustainable forest management practices.
  • Support for Local Economy: CUFC prioritizes local suppliers to minimise carbon footprint and bolster the regional economy.
  • Commitment to Net-Zero: Contractors involved in the project have committed to achieving net-zero targets verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI), aligning with global climate goals.
  • Fleet Emissions Reduction: CUFC has reduced the proportion of petrol/diesel vehicles in its fleet from 33% to 10%, with 90% of vehicles now hybrid or electric. Carbon emissions from fossil fuels are offset through certified schemes.
  • Transition to Renewable Energy: CUFC offices currently operate on 100% renewable energy, with plans to transition all facilities to green suppliers by FY24.

CUFC's contractors, including Unwin Jones, have implemented LED lighting and enhanced insulation, while McKnight has recycled concrete on-site for new construction. PMS has contributed by recycling old structural steel from lighting towers, thereby extending material life cycles.

Patty Piatak, Owner, and Director of CUFC, expressed her enthusiasm for the project's sustainable initiatives: "At Carlisle United, we are not only enhancing Brunton Park for our fans but also setting a benchmark in sustainable construction practices. We are proud to collaborate with contractors who share our vision for a greener future."
