Ahead of tomorrow’s fixture against Gillingham, we spoke to Cameron Harper.
Speaking to CUTV, he said: “Obviously a decent enough performance last week, especially in the second-half, so confident going into this one.
“I say it every week, I feel like a bit of a broken record but we know it'll be tough, but I think if we manage to produce something close to or better than what we did the second-half last week then we should be all right, just kind of focus on ourselves really.”
Saturday provides another great chance for the Blues to return to winning ways, against a side who are experiencing a bad run of form at the moment.
"I think the gaffer said it in his interview that we've come up against teams that are in good form at the moment, so I mean form kind of goes out the window, you don't really think about it as a player but like you say it's we're at home, we've got the fans behind us and a good chance to get three points.”
Talking on performances under Mark Hughes so far, Cam said: “I think they've been decent, Grimsby maybe not so much just because we had only had a day or two with him but I think the Newport game we've fairly dominated most of it and then the game last week we could see that we didn't have a great first-half but came in at half–time and we made some changes and I feel like we dominated most of the second-half.
“I know Gabe pulled off a great save in the second-half but so did their ‘keeper from Embo (Elliot Embleton) and Wearney (Stephen Wearne) so it probably evens itself out but it felt like we were dominant in that second-half.
“Slightly different message from the previous coaching team but no they've been good, they've just tried to make everything very simple, no grey areas kind of thing and it seems to be working with all the boys.
“They obviously want crosses in the box, want to be getting at teams but it's maybe being a wee bit more, I don't know what the word is, probably football savvy in terms of where we're doing things on the pitch and just giving ourselves the best opportunity to have attacks and finish them.”
Following Josh Williams’ injury against Colchester United, Cammy was introduced on the opposite flank, playing right-back before moving to right-wing-back following a change in system.
“It was all right, don't get me wrong it felt a bit alien for the first couple minutes but after that it was fine, just as long as I'm on the pitch I'm happy kind of thing so whatever I'm asked to play I'll play kind of thing.
“It's weird, I was saying that to Sam because obviously he was beside me, it's just your body position, it feels a little bit different, you've got players on different sides that you normally have so it felt a little bit alien but after the first five minutes of the first-half and then getting in at half-time, I felt like it was sound.”
Touching on the second 45 in further detail, Harper said: “Their goalie's made numerous saves but I think the main part of it is we probably should have got three points, but we didn't lose the game which is obviously so important right now and I know draws aren't going to take you up the table but just to stop a losing run kind of thing is the main aim in that but we'll be looking for three points this Saturday.”
United face Gillingham before heading to Barrow next Thursday night, speaking on those games, the defender said: “I think these next two games are huge and we're looking forward to it.”
Finally, on the fans, Cammy said: “Since I joined in the summer, they've always backed us. I know there's been a few rocky moments along the way but we do appreciate it and it does help so much when they're on our side. I think you've seen that in that second-half, we were very dominant and they were behind us the whole way and it gives you that extra yard.”
