ARCHIE DAVIES SPEAKS AHEAD OF FLEETWOOD TOWN CLASH

Archie Davies

Ahead of Saturday's clash against Fleetwood Town, we spoke to Archie Davies.

Speaking to CUTV, he said: "I'm looking forward to it. I think it's a good opportunity to obviously bounce back from last week and try and find some consistency and ultimately get three points that I feel like performances have deserved.

"I think it's going to be physical. I think you'll have to match them in that sense and then hopefully our quality on the ball will take over."

Analysing the campaign on a whole so far, Archie said: "I think it's a bit inconsistent. I think in a lot of patches you've got good performances, just maybe lacking that little cutting edge. I think once we find that we'll be in a good spot.

"So hopefully we find that sort of level consistency and a bit more ruthlessness in both boxes and then we'll be flying."

When asked about his personal performances this term, Davies stated: "I think there's a lot more to come.

"It's a long season so to start off well gets you a bit of confidence.

"Moving forward I'll hopefully add a bit more in terms of going forward, goal contributions and ultimately defending our net a bit better, which I think we need to do."

After joining United from Dundalk in the summer, the right-sided defender netted his first for the Blues against Barrow on 17 August.

"I think that was actually my first league goal. I've scored a couple in the past but they've mainly been in cup competitions. It only took six games, I expected it to take a bit longer!

"I think everywhere I've been it's been steady. I started maybe a tiny bit slower than I wanted to but then found my feet and I think that's just from confidence playing with different players that you haven't played with before.

"Every day I feel more confident and more settled so hopefully that will show in performances."

Steven Rudd, Mark Birch and Jamie Devitt continue to lead the football department on a temporary basis, when asked what it's been like behind-the-scenes in the last few weeks, he said: "Obviously it's never nice losing your manager, especially so early on in the season but I think the boys that have come in have put their own mark on it.

"It's sort of added a bit more freshness which was sort of a breath of fresh air.

"It's been nice, training has been good and we're all just looking to get the season underway really in a way. We want to pick points up and just carry on the performances, just add that 5-10% more."

Due to making 12 summer signings, Archie joined a squad which has changed a lot on the pitch from last season.

"You have to be adaptable and just take each day as it comes and that's what I think all the lads have done. It's just building blocks now, that's what we're trying to do.

"I think even seeing the quality in training and the boys that are in the changing room, there's a lot of quality there and you see it day-to-day. It's just about now translating that from the training pitch on to where it matters on a Saturday afternoon."

Talking on his personal aims this season, he added: "I think, like you say, goal contributions is one and ultimately helping the boys at the back as well because it's been a bit too many goals conceded so we'll look to work on that also."

The Blues were backed by over 1,700 supporters last weekend in Bradford - the highest away attendance in the EFL during that gameweek!

"They were absolutely unbelievable at Bradford.

"I think that's the largest away following that I've seen, to be fair. So yeah, they were great. We just need to repay their faith now and start putting in performances that warrant results."
