United's under-18 side were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat on Saturday morning away at Wrexham in their latest game of the Youth Alliance League.
It was the hosts who dominated proceedings scoring the opening goal after 20 minutes, when a cross from out wide was nodded home by the Wrexham forward to give them the lead.
In the closing stages of the first-half, two quick-fire goals from Wrexham saw the North Wales side take a 3-0 lead into the break giving them a firm grip of the game.
Goals continued to flow for Wrexham as a fourth goal was volleyed home by the opposition to kill any real hope United had of getting back into the game.
And things went from bad to worse for United, as Josh O'Brien received his marching orders following a second bookable offence with ten minutes remaining.
Freddie O'Donoghue managed to grab a consolation goal with only a couple minutes left, but the referee soon after signalled the end of the game, with the scoreline ending 4-1.
Speaking after the defeat, youth team manager Mark Birch said: "It was a tough game for the lads, we didn't play to the levels we can especially in the first half.
"We were 3-0 down at half-time and it felt like it was going to be a tough assignment getting back into the game from then on.
"In the second-half we gave it a good go but after 80 minutes we found ourselves 4-0 down and Josh O'Brien was then sent off after receiving two yellow cards.
"We managed to pull one back through Freddie O'Donoghue, which was a positive for him to get on the scoresheet again.
"On the whole, we just lacked some real quality throughout but we just have to dust ourselves down, reset and go again ahead of the game against Walsall next week."
