Jack Robinson played a key role in both goals against Port Vale - winning the penalty that Jordan Gibson converted before delivering the corner for Jon Mellish's winner.
And the full-back came in for praise from manager Paul Simpson when he spoke after the victory.
"He’s shown character from the first day he came to the club," he said.
"Jack Armer was consistent last season so he deserved to stay and I also felt he deserved to start the season.
"The way Jack Robinson has played, the quality he gives us in crosses, is the reason I went with him."
And it's character such as that which the Blues' boss knows will be necessary as the side look to put together a run of results.
"They showed real good character, that’s what we’re going to have to do," added Simpson.
"This doesn’t make everything alright but it certainly gives us a real fighting chance.
"It gives us a boost. We’re in a new year, it’s a new start for us. We can’t do anything about the games that have gone where we haven’t done enough, done well enough, but the challenge now for the second half of the season.
"Last season we had a really good run to get ourselves in a good position and then didn’t finish strongly. This time we’ve had a poor start, and now we have to make sure we finish this season strongly."
