Jordan Gibson has been named Carlisle United’s Player of the Month for November after topping an online vote by fans.
The midfielder impressed during a difficult period for the Blues, and his consistent performances included an eye-catching display against Harrogate Town in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy when his brace of goals secured the club’s only win during the month.
Over eight hundred fans participated in the inaugural poll and when voting closed a mere two votes separated Gibson and second-placed Sam Lavelle. Between them, they received seventy-five percent of all the votes cast.
The confirmation of the 25-year-old's award comes after he netted a vital penalty in the Blues' 2-1 win over Port Vale on January 1.
Gibson was presented with his award by fan and YouTube vlogger, Rebecca Long, prior to the recent game against Cheltenham Town, who said “I’m honoured to be asked to present the first ever Playerof the Month award, and especially to a player who impresses me more with each game.”
Predictably, most of the 823 votes came from in and around Cumbria, but many were also received from around the UK.
Interestingly, there was an international dimension to the poll with Blues fans from a dozen countries, including the USA, Norway, Spain and even Vietnam, casting their votes.
A spokesman for the group behind the initiative said, “Many clubs have fan-voted monthly awards, including some in League 1. United has an amazingly loyal set of fans and we want to tap into that knowledge and passion to choose the team’s outstanding performer each month.”
Voting is now open for the December Player of the Month with voting closing at 3pm on 6 January.
