Ben Barclay joined us following the final whistle on Monday.
Assessing the game against Lincoln, he said: “[Its] Disappointing, I think from the last two performances, we would’ve looked to have built from them.
“Today, I don’t think we really got off to the best of starts. It seemed like they had a bit more energy than us and landed on more second balls, played better football.
“No excuses, we didn’t start well enough.
“They’re doing well, 15 now unbeaten, but I still think we can give a better account of ourselves, start the game better and it showed in the second-half when we had loads of chances and if we had taken some of them, the game could’ve been different.”
Analysing Ben House’s opener for the Imps, Barclay said: “I think without seeing it back, I think we sort of win the ball back on the turnover, give it straight back to them, maybe once or twice in the phase and the ball goes to the back post, he nods it down, I’ve tried getting on the line, but he puts it in.”
The Blues went into the interval 1-0 down and there was a clear message from the gaffer, according to the defender.
“We didn’t start well enough, which we shouldn’t have done, especially from the last couple of games, two good performances.
“While it’s 1-0 you’re still in the game, so go out there and start the second-half well.”
Ben added: “I feel like the whole of the second-half, even when it was 2-0, we were in their box quite a lot, we had chances.
“You can say we worked the ‘keeper because we had shots on target, but a lot of them were just straight at him.”
Lincoln’s second goal came following an error from United, which saw Joe Taylor double the visitors' advantage.
“That’s the most disappointing thing, I think.
“Other than the slow start to the game, conceding on the counter from our own corner, especially when we’re on top and we’ve got a chance of getting back into the game.
“The last one, I don’t think it’s a foul to be honest, it sort of takes the sting out of it a little bit so late on.”
Captain Sam Lavelle halved the deficit as we entered the final ten minutes, speaking on that goal, Ben said: “We knew if we’d got one, we’d get that feeling.
“You could feel that even when we went 2-0 down, because we were still making chances.
Finally, Barclay had the following to say regarding United’s supporters: “Thank you. It’s been a tough season.
“They’ve come out in big numbers again and we can’t thank them enough.”
