We spoke to Josh Kayode ahead of this weekend's final home fixture of the season against Wycombe Wanderers.
Touching on our previous game against Blackpool, he said: “[It] Felt really good as it’s been a very tough seven months with the shoulder injury and then the calf injury.
"It was bittersweet as the result didn’t go our way, but on a personal level it meant the world to me to get back out there [at Brunton Park].
“The lads are going to continue what we are doing, that games gone now, we have to look ahead to the weekend and hopefully get the three points.”
When questioned on his time out, he told us this: “It was probably one of the toughest times in my career so far, the season before was riddled with injuries as well.
"The shoulder injury at Accrington kept me out for four-and-a-half months, then I was back training for a month and was feeling good, but then the day before the Wigan game is when the calf injury happened and it was really tough and messed with my head a lot.
“It’s been super hard, I can’t even begin to explain how it’s been.
"It’s weird because people on the outside don’t really understand what you go through, they just see you and think he should be on the pitch every weekend, but a lot of things happen out of your control, you can do all the right things, but still things happen and it will still affect you mentally - I’ve had all the right people around me.
“All the lads are spot on to be fair, so they have all made it easy for me this season, all messaging me seeing how I was getting on with the injury, which is what you need from a team your in with brand new faces.
"I’ve got Mellish who was here last time I was here, Callum Guy and Jack Armer, who was here last time I was here, and obviously Georgie has come in. So yeah, it’s good to have familiar faces around and the lads that I didn’t know have taken to me quite well.”
JJ and Georgie Kelly have previously played together at Rotherham and were recently reunited at Brunton Park following the latters switch in January.
When asked about his teammate, he stated: “[He's a] Sound guy, one of the nicest guys.
"We’ve been at Rotherham together for a few years now, so we know what we like, what type of passes we like, we just understand each other.
"It’s something I’m looking forward to for the last two games and hopefully we can assist each other or get goals as well."
When asked about preparations leading up to this weekend's game, and getting one last win in front of the home support, JJ said: “It’s been really intense, the same old really. We are going to have to go out there and give it our all and hopefully come away with the three points.
“That’s the plan, that’s always the aim to win games. Obviously it hasn’t come around that easy for us this season, but we are always going to give 100%.”
Finally, speaking on the supporters, Kayode added: “The fans are unbelievable, this is my third stint here and nothing has changed, they are just at it every single game and like I said, it’s been a bit hard for me because I haven’t been able to play and do what I did last time, again this year.
"They’ve been amazing, I’ve been getting messages from all of them throughout the season, so I appreciate them.”
