Stevenage v Carlisle United, Saturday 9 September, kick off 3pm.

Just one league defeat from six games played- away at Reading in the middle of last month - has seen Stevenage settle quickly to life in League One having secured their promotion last term.

A victory over Watford in a penalty shootout in the Carabao Cup gave them a four-game winning streak at the start of the season, but that loss to the Royals was followed by a draw with Portsmouth and an exit from the Carabao at the hands of Exeter - this time to a dramatic spot kick reverse.

They got back to winning ways last weekend with a convincing 3-0 away thrashing of Orient, and that was backed up by their 1-1 away draw on Tuesday night at Wimbledon. But it was  the Dons who took the bonus point from the Trophy group game with a 6-5 penalty victory.

It was a busy summer of transfer activity in and out, capped off on deadline day with the loan signings of striker Charlie McNeill from Manchester United and the permanent capture of winger Harvey white from Spurs.

A mean defence has seen them concede just three goals, with eight netted at the other end, and reports suggest that they look good for their current their standing.

Striker Jamie Reid signed an improved and extended contract with Boro at the end of August.

The 29-year-old joined Stevenage from Mansfield in the summer of 2021 and has scored 26 goals in 110 appearances.

He has two goals so far from six league games this season, and remains a constant threat.

It was a 0-0 draw between these teams at Brunton Park in March 2023.

Stevenage took the spoils at the Lamex in August 2022 with first half goals from Kane Smith and Max Clark. Kris Dennis got one back on the stroke of half time, but the hosts dug deep to see it through.

United won 2-1 when these teams met in Cumbria in April 2022 with second half goals from Joe Riley and Lewis Alessandra providing a cushion. Luke Norris bagged from the spot, but it was too little too late.

Jon Mellish and Jordan Gibson scored the goals at the Lamex in December 2021 that gave the Blues a comfortable away victory.

A red card for Rod McDonald on 18 minutes put United on the back foot as Tom Pett, Luke Norris and Arthur Read made the one-man advantage when these teams met in March 2021. Brennan Dickenson scored his first goal for the club, but it wasn't quite enough to make a difference.

December 2020 brought a convincing home victory for United with goals from Nick Anderton, Josh Kayode, Lewis Alessandra and Joe riley making up the 4-0 win. Luke Prosser was sent off with 15 minutes left to play to compound the misery for the visitors.

The only meeting of these teams in the Covid hit 2019/20 season was in September, where a brace from Harry McKirdy and a goal from Nathan Thomas were enough to cancel out a double strike from Kurtis Guthrie.

We were also down in Stevenage in April 2019, and it was one to forget for United as Iontton and a brace from Guthrie deflated the travelling crowd.

Watch the highlights from that game here:

The Boro picked up where they had left off the previous season when they came north in September 2018. Carlisle were made to pay for early missed chances when Ben Kennedy scored a beauty after the break, and there was more disappointment when an Adam Campbell header crashed against the post late in the day.

Watch the highlights from that game here:

Our visit to the Lamex in January 2018 was a tight affair but it was United who created the better of the chances, with Danny Grainger and Jamie Devitt both going close from first half free kicks. Sam Cosgrove could have wrapped things up when he was played clean through but, in the end, neither side could find a way to break the deadlock.

Watch the highlights from that game here:

It was another tough one for the Blues almost exactly two years ago when early second half goals from Kennedy and Tom Pett put Boro in cruise control as they saw their way through to a comfortable three points.
