Keeper Jokull Andresson won the fan vote for man of the match at the weekend thanks to some excellent saves, and he received praise from manager Paul Simpson afterwards for what had been a very good performance.
“I hope he’ll take a lot of confidence from it,” he said. “He’s being pushed all the way by Tomas [Holy] who showed on Tuesday he can come in and do a job as well.
“He must have made three or four really good saves with his feet, then a couple he tipped over. That’s why I wanted him in the club, because I think he’s a good shot stopper.
“I think it’s probably fair to say he doesn’t come and dominate his box like somebody who is Tomas’s size can, his kicking is maybe not as consistent as Tomas’s, certainly not distance wise.
“But he makes saves and that was why I put him in. I want him to make saves, that’s really important as a goalkeeper, and that’s stating the bleeding obvious.”
“Like I say, he did some good things, and I’ve got to say that I was delighted to see the flag go up when he fumbled that one,” he added.
“I’m not sure what happened there, if it took a bit of a bobble or not. We got out of jail with that one.
“Other than that he was outstanding. There was a one against one in the first half where he’s saved it, and a couple in the second half which were excellent saves. That’s why we’ve brought him into the club, because he is a shot stopper.
“The players have got confidence in him behind them, and when he makes saves like that they get even more confidence, and that’s what you have to have with a goalkeeper.
“We’re in a position now where we have Tomas who came back into the side on Tuesday and showed what he’s all about. Jokull got back in and did well, so that side of it’s looking good and we’ve just got to keep moving forward now.”
