The academy under-16 players enjoyed an afternoon at the Carlisle Golf Centre & Driving Range on Thursday as they played out an extremely competitive and error-ridden foot golf competition where, it has to be said, more time was spent in the rough than on the smooth.
The lads have spent the last six weeks training with the under-18 team and, as a reward for their efforts, they headed off to the tees for a very different kind of session.
Academy coach Steven Rudd said: “A huge thank you goes to Mike Tinning at Carlisle Footgolf who kindly donated the afternoon for free.
“The players have worked through the summer and this was a great, fun way to round things off for them before they go back to school.
“All of them have trained really hard, they’ve applied themselves in the friendly fixtures they’ve played, and this was another part of that important bonding process.
“Well done to all of them. It was good to see them enjoy their day.”
For the record, the winners were Simon Rigby and Jack Porter who completed – or should we say hacked their way through the nine holes – in 29 shots.
