There was some good news on the injury front this week with confirmation that defender Ben Barclay has trained well with the rest of the squad following his recovery from his calf problem.
“Ben is training really well and comes into my thinking for the weekend, if not for Saturday then certainly for Tuesday against Forest,” manager Paul Simpson explained. “He’s been frustrated, I think he wanted to be involved on Tuesday.
“We’ll just have to see come this weekend as to who we think’s the right combination to have involved.
“Dylan McGeouch is progressing ok, he’s done a run on the treadmill today [Thursday] and we’re hoping if he has no reaction to that he’ll come out on the grass tomorrow and do some running.
“Taylor has done some good strength work in the gym, and we’re looking to build up that hamstring. We’re hoping to go to the next stage of it over the next couple of days.
“Dylan is end of October, Taylor is end of November and JJ Kayode is end of December, so there’s not a lot we can do about it. We’ve just got to hope they recover well.”
“The operation has gone well for JJ and he’s doing the early stages of his rehab at Rotherham,” he continued. “We’re going to just wait and see over the next few weeks because he can’t do anything yet, but if we can get him back up here to start doing the non-contact football then we will.
“We’re in the hands of Rotherham on that, but all the signs are that it’s gone really well and he’s comfortable with it. He’s starting to be able to get some slow build up back into his return.”
“Everybody else is fit to train,” he concluded. “There are a few little niggly things that we’re assessing and seeing what’s going on, but I’m not expecting any issues going into the weekend.”
