There was concern for United following this afternoon’s Central League Cup meeting with Blackpool when youth second-year skipper Jake Allan and first-team defender Corey Whelan both left the pitch before full-time having earlier gone to ground.
Assistant manager Gav Skelton said: “With Corey, I don’t think it’s anything serious at all.
“It was just a precaution, and that was the same when we took Jake Allan off. I wasn’t sure when Corey first came off, but in there [the changing room after the game] he said he was fine.
“Jack Ellis wasn’t with us because he’s doing his rehab. It’s a minor thing, I think he felt something last Tuesday.
“It was in his groin area – the hip flexor area – but hopefully it’s minor. If he was desperately needed today I’m sure he could have played.”
We’ll have more from the reserve game on the official website on Wednesday morning.
