A crowd of 7,838 were at Brunton Park for Saturday's meeting with Bristol Rovers - with well over 7,000 of those of a Cumbrian persuasion.
And their impact wasn't lost on manager Paul Simpson when he reflected on the narrow defeat.
"The fans have been outstanding and we can't shy away from that," he said.
"I said it during the week, we have to start getting performances and results that keep them with us.
"I know how momentum goes in football and it's very quickly lost. We have to make sure we hang in until the turn of the year when hopefully we're going to be in a position where we can go and strengthen the group because I'll openly admit it, we need to strengthen it because at the moment we're way off it and that's why results are going against us."
The home faithful were particularly key as the Blues looked to impose themselves on the game after Bristol Rovers saw more of the ball in the early exchanges.
But once the side settled, Simpson was pleased with aspects of what he saw - albeit while challenging his side to dig deep moving forward and find the end product that was absent on Saturday afternoon.
The manager added: "We had a slow start to the game but once we settled I thought we had some play where we had a bit of control and we got into wide areas.
"Luke Plange was causing problems in the first half and getting balls in the box, and we just didn't have enough getting in there and showing the real hunger to go and score goals.
"We've got to get back to it. Let's not shy away from it, we're in trouble at the moment the way things are going.
"Players are dropping like flies and we need to dig deep and keep going."
