Just about every Carlisle fan who is online will have seen the wonderful footage captured by our Pitchside Blues camera at the Grimsby game which saw dad Ian Norton expertly manoeuvre his six-year-old son Frankie out of the way of a deflected Alfie McCalmont shot, with the little fella smiling as he took an unexpected journey towards the pitch.
Midfielder Alfie McCalmont saw the clip of Frankie and his majestic leap after the game, and immediately asked the media department to contact the family so that he could say hello, and hand over a memento of the day to the young United fan.
“I thought the clip was brilliant, and the way that Frankie took it all in his stride was brilliant to watch,” Alfie told us.
“It was really nice to meet Frankie, Ellie, Stacey and Ian ahead of the Stevenage game, and I have to say thank you from all of the lads for the good luck card Ellie gave us.
“Frankie got the signed boots I wore on the day he became famous, and we had enough time to get him on the pitch and score a couple of goals in the Warwick Road End. It really was fantastic to meet him.”
“I can’t thank the club and Alfie enough for the way they’ve been with Frankie and Ellie,” Ian said. “We couldn’t believe the reaction to the video clip, and being invited along on a match day just shows how brilliant people can be.
“Frankie loved it, Ellie got to hand over her good luck card, and Alfie was a credit to the club. Thank you to Carlisle United from all of us.”
