FIXTURE RELEASE DAY: Schedule confirmed for the Blues

The fixtures are out, and it's been confirmed that United will kick their 2023/24 campaign off with a home game against relatively local rivals Fleetwood Town on Saturday 5 August.

Bizarrely it's a first ever league meeting between the clubs, though they have met on six occasions in cup competitions.

Our first away league game, the following Saturday [12 August], takes us to the Kassam Stadium and a former stomping ground for gaffer Paul Simpson.

It was Oxford who lured Simpson from Manchester City for a reported £200,000 transfer fee back in the late 80's, and he went on to become a bit of a hero with 50 goals from 168 appearances in all competitions.

Tuesday nights ahead of Christmas are relatively busy with cup competitions, and in the league we see that 15 August brings Wigan to Brunton Park early in the piece.

Another Tuesday night home game comes our way on 3 October, when Peterborough United come to town, and Burton Albion will also be with us midweek that same month, on 24 October.

Our first Tuesday night away league trek is to Reading on 28 November.

The always popular festive fixtures see us host Port Vale on New Year's Day, with Boxing Day an away hop to Highbury to face Fleetwood Town.

Friday 29 December completes that Xmas triple-header of games with a trundle down the M6 to play Wigan Athletic.

Good Friday is an away game - we play Peterborough United - with Lincoln City our Easter Monday home  fixture.

Our last home game of the 2023/24 campaign is against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday 20 April.

And the final road trip, and last scheduled game of the season, takes us to another of Simmo's former clubs - Derby County. That's on Saturday 27 April.

He spent five seasons with the Rams as a player between 1992 and 1997.
