United boss Paul Simpson gave us his reaction to the arrival of summer signing number five – Dylan McGeouch.
“He’s a player who has a wealth of experience both up in Scotland and also down here,” he said. “He also has League One experience and he’s a really good footballer.
“He comes from a good spell at Forest Green last season and I know it’s stating the obvious, but I’m just really pleased that we’ve got him. He’s a great addition to the group.”
“In terms of how he plays, the best way to describe him is that he’s a footballer,” he continued. “He keeps the ball for you, and we’re coming up another level, so that’s exactly what we need to do.
“He can use it, he creates chances, and that good level of experience adds more to a group that already has energy and enthusiasm.
“We’ve looked at the makeup of the squad and we wanted some younger players who have the hunger and desire, and I think when you have experienced players they bring so much nouse to the group.
“He comes in alongside the other experienced players and I think we’re getting a really good mix now. It’s the energy and excitement of the younger players and we also have those who will hopefully be able to add a bit of game management for us.
“It’s also another where it keeps people on their toes. I want to have competition right through the squad and he adds to that as well. Again, with the knowledge of the game he has it’s a really exciting one for us.”
“That’s us done for today,” he concluded. “We do have a lot going on and we’re waiting on loans for young Premier League players.
“We’re working away on those but I don’t expect any to happen over the next three or four days. We’ll continue to do what we can and hopefully they’ll be sorted sooner rather than later.”
