New arrival Fin Back didn’t get pitch time against Chorley on Tuesday night but he was there with group, not only to support, but also to get a useful training session under the belt ahead of the game.
“That was all part of the plan we had for him,” assistant manager Gav Skelton explained. “I think the medical staff here have worked closely with Nottingham Forest’s medical staff.
“I think he played game time when they were away in Poland, and the plan is for this Saturday to get him game time. He trained yesterday, he did his stuff today, he’ll be off On Wednesday and will go again Thursday.
“It’s good to see him here. He knows the place, knows the squad, it was important to have him involved on Tuesday, not in the game but important he travelled with the squad.
“You can tell in his face, his expression, he’s pleased to be back and he’ll certainly be an asset and provide competition on the right-hand side.”
Between the sticks it was valuable pitch time for trialist keeper Dan Langley and second-year pro Gabe Breeze.
“It was important that Dan got his game tonight,” he told us. “The new keeper coach is here, so he can assess him, which is important. We’ll assess him in training and see how that goes.
“And Gabe has performed well in training. He’s had minutes for the youth team but he’ll benefit from that.
“Jake Allan also stepped up from the youth team as a second year and he can be pleased with his work. He’s trained a couple of times with the first team and enjoyed it.
“Credit to the young players, any time they’ve trained with us they’ve all done themselves justice. He’s trained well and didn’t look out of place, which is really pleasing for him.”
