Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that midfielder Sonny Hilton has today returned to parent club Fulham.
Hilton, 21, joined the Blues on a season-long loan deal ahead of the 2022/23 campaign but had his stay blighted by a troublesome ankle injury picked up at the end of the Newport away game in September.
He made a total of 10 appearances for United, most recently from the bench in the festive away victory over Crewe.
Manager Paul Simpson explained: “After recent conversations between Fulham, Sonny, and us, it was agreed that it was in Sonny’s best interests for him to return to his parent club.
“Since returning from his ankle injury he hasn’t got the match minutes we would all have hoped for. I have enjoyed working with him as he’s a top guy, and I wish him well.”
Hilton joined Fulham as an under-16 player from Tranmere Rovers. He has also represented England at under-16 level and captained Fulham’s under-18 side as he continued his progression through the ranks.
He enjoyed a loan spell with Finnish side TPS Turku between April and July 2021 and returned to skipper the under-23 squad during the 2021/22 season.
Playing on the right of midfield, and in the middle, he was part of the team that clinched the Premier League 2 Division 2 title, securing their promotion in style.
