It’s been a tough season for defender Ben Barclay who, having battled his way back from a troublesome ankle problem, found himself with an unusual calf injury to contend with last week when he felt that something wasn’t quite right during a routine training session.
“I’m gutted for him but the good news is that it isn’t too bad,” manager Paul Simpson explained. “It came from nothing as well.
“He was training on Tuesday and he just went to push off, and he felt something pop in the bottom of his calf.
“There’s some sort of tendon there that I’m told doesn’t have a major use, but it’s one of those things where when it pops it’s 10 to 14 days until it’s ok again.
“We’ve just got to get him right again now. He’s certainly feeling a lot better than he was on Tuesday, we got him scanned on Wednesday and he was feeling really down just after it happened.
“He was concerned that it was going to be a long-term thing but hopefully it isn’t too bad and we can get him back soon.
“On my board in the office I’ve got him targeted for the Crawley game. We're just going to have to wait and see whether it's that’s game or whether it's the one after.
“We’ll do what we can to get him back fit. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as we first feared and hopefully it won't be too long.”
