It's the first meeting of these teams since April 2016, and a first visit to Oxford for the Cumbrians since December 2015.
The U's have had a difficult start to the season with two defeats on the road leading into their first home fixture.
They conceded twice inside the first 30 minutes against Cambridge last weekend and even a late flurry of chances failed to make a dent as they fell to a two-goal defeat.
Billy Bodin levelled things up in Tuesday night's Carabao Cup meeting with Bristol City at Ashton Gate, but the hosts found the back of the net on four further occasions to leave their visitors with a bloody nose.
Portuguese forward Ruben Rodrigues signed what was described as a long-term deal with Oxford when he left Notts County to join them at the beginning of June, and he's expected to have a big impact.
Defender Jordan Thorniley left Blackpool for a similar agreement, and midfielder Josh McEachran signed on a free from MK Dons on the same day.
Brighton keeper James Beadle signed on a season-long loan to bolster the back line, and Brentford defender Fin Stevens was another to pen a loan contract.
More loan movement brought Everton winger Stanley Mills down the A40, and there was more Merseyside input when striker Max Woltman signed for Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.
We're going with new arrival Ruben Rodrigues who netted 51 goals in 125 appearances across three seasons with the Magpies on Notts County.
He can play a nuber of roles and clearly has an eye for goal.
With that record he has to be our one to watch.

Oxford were at Brunton Park in April 2016 and goals from Chris Maguire (pen) and Liam Sercombe either side of the break were enough to secure them the win.

A Chey Dunkley own goal on the stroke of half time levelled things up for a Carlisle side that had gone behind to an early Alex MacDonald strike back in October 2015. And that was how the game ended.
