ACADEMY: Charity walk for much loved friend

On Saturday 9 September our academy staff and players will be taking part in a fundraising walk around Derwent Water, at Keswick.

This will be in memory of our head of coaching Dave Wilkes, who we recently sadly lost, and who was well respected and highly esteemed, not just within the club but throughout the country.

The walk is open to all academy players, parents, club staff and any fans who would like to come along.

It will start at the Theatre by the Lake (CA12 5DJ) at 10am on the day. The route will be the 15km Derwent Water circular trail, and we advise that you bring the appropriate footwear and clothing for this event.

Academy manager Simon Friel said: “This is a great opportunity for everyone who is part of the club and Academy to get together to remember and honour Dave.

“I know that Dave loved the outdoors and getting down to the lakes to walk was something he enjoyed and often talked about.

“This seems a fitting thing to do and I hope that as many people as possible will join us on Saturday [9 September] to take part.

“The two charities we will be raising money for will be Carlisle Eden MIND and Every Life matters. Carlisle Eden MIND are a local mental health charity and the club have a good link with them.

“Since the passing of Dave they have been a great support for all staff, coming in to do a group talk on bereavement and also providing drop in opportunities for us all.

“Every Life Matters is another important charity which does great work. We want to not only raise awareness on the issues that these charities deal with, which we can all face, but also raise some much-needed funds to help support the fantastic service that they provide to the people of Cumbria.

“We have set up a Just Giving page for anyone to access and donate money to help support these brilliant charities.

“We have a target of raising £500 pounds, which we are confident we can reach, but I’m hoping with the help and generosity of everyone that we can exceed that target.

“It would be great for everyone to spread the word about this fundraising event and support it in any way you can. I have no doubt that it will be a great day for everyone involved and something that Dave would have been really proud of.”

If you would like to support our cause by either joining us at 10am on Saturday 9 September, starting from The Theatre by the Lake, on our walk or by donation, please see the link below for further details.
