United's penultimate game of the season was the away trip into the Potteries to face Port Vale.
Robbie Swinburn netted just before the half hour in what was a scrappy game, but the BLues, who ended the encounter with three under-15s on the pitch, stuck to the task and played as a unit to see the win through.
