YOUTH: Bolton

United hosted Bolton on Wednesday afternoon for their rearranged under-18 fixture.

And it was a competitive meeting between two teams who looked for the win from the first to the last whistle.

Bolton almost struck with the first attack of the day when a cross from the right dipped and smacked onto the inside of the post. It bounced clear and the home defence closed ranks to complete the clearance.

The away side enjoyed the bulk of the possession through the first 45 minutes but misplaced passes and underhit or overhit crosses meant that good moments went begging.

But a handball on 15 minutes brought a whistle from the referee as he pointed to the spot. Breeze guessed correctly to make a diving save but the ball was swept into the net on the rebound.

United kept plugging away and they got their reward just before the break when Hardy broke through after the offside trap had been beaten. He kept his calm to slot his shot into the bottom corner of the net.

It was much tighter after the break, but Breeze was called into action on two occasions as Bolton used their wide men to cause problems. The stopper made smart saves to keep the scores at all-square.

Carlisle had moments of their own, but clear-cut chances were at a premium as the contestants settled for a share of the spoils.
