Two of the teams who are chasing automatic promotion come together at Brunton Park tonight with in-form Stockport County our visitors, and it certainly makes for an intriguing encounter with the teams deadlocked on points, and with a one-goal advantage to the Hatters in goal difference.
“It’s a fantastic game and a really good opportunity for us,” manager Paul Simpson said. “Between now and the end of the season all the teams up the top will be playing each other, there are no gimme results.
“The only way we’ll get a result tonight is if we get back to it and we have to do it. The sooner we do it, the better for everybody. We’ll get ready to have a right good go again.
“That’s the way it goes now. We’re chalking the games off, I just hope we don’t run out of games and we can get back to winning ways, get back to being freer.
“We have this brilliant game, then a fantastic local derby on Saturday, another huge game at home the week after, and we have to get back to it.
“There’s enough games, we’re more than capable of winning the amount of games we’d need to stay up in these top places. The big challenge is can we get back to it as soon as possible.
“We’re at home, we want to win again, just like they will, they’ve done well away from home, it’s going to be a very interesting game that we have to make sure we’re right for.
“It’ll be really tough for us, but a great game. We’ve earned the right to be up at the top of the table, now we have to earn the right to stay there. Nothing is done and dusted yet, there’s enough points to play for to actually still get automatic.
“If we don’t get automatic we need to make sure we get enough points to stay in the play-offs, and that’s the challenge for us over the last four.”
