Having had such a positive injury update on Wednesday United were dealt a double blow at Brisbane Road with the first-half losses of Fin Back and Morgan Feeney to hamstring injuries.
Speaking about the injuries after the game, manager Paul Simpson said: “I feel sorry for Fin because he’s worked hard, he’s passed all of the fitness tests that Forest have put him through, and the plan today was to get 70 minutes out of him.
“Forest were totally comfortable with that, but it’s his other hamstring, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
“Morgan Feeney has done his hamstring as well. He felt a pop, Who knows, we’ll just have to wait and see how they are.
“I have to say that neither of them looked very good, they don’t look to be in a good position. I’m absolutely gutted for the pair of them.
“We were getting into a position where we had a good group, a strong group with those guys coming back, unfortunately it’s a proper kicking today with those two, and it’s now going to be down to others to come in and do the job.”
“I’ve got to say at the moment it doesn’t look like either of them have got any chance for next week,” he confirmed. “Whether they’ve got any chance for the rest of the season we’ve got to wait and see.
“It’s a little bit early for me to be able to say on that one, we’ve just got to wait and see what comes. We do have cover, that’s the good thing.
“Joel Senior and Jack Ellis are both available. We’ve got Ben Barclay as well who can come in, but Ben may have to play centre back. We’ll assess it over the next few days.
“It’s really disappointing for them as individuals, and for us, because the chances are they’re not going to be available for the next weekend.”
