United face Bransty Rangers in the second round of this season’s Cumberland Cup tonight, with manager Paul Simpson set to use the opportunity to give a few members of the first team squad the opportunity to get minutes under their belts.
“It’s a really important competition as far as I’m concerned,” he said. “As the senior club in the area, we have to do it properly, it’s as simple as that.
“In my time here last time I took the county cup seriously, because it’s not respectful to the rest of our county if we don’t.
“I want to win on Tuesday night. It’s about getting players fit, but it’s also about getting a result and getting through to the next round.
“As I said, hopefully for the likes of Jamie Devitt and others coming back from injury it’ll be really beneficial for them.
“It’s also good to see the younger players who are involved and how they handle it, because these games are never easy.
“It’s about doing things properly, so it’s a game we can look forward to for a number of reasons.”
