As the song says – we’ve got super Paul Simpson ...
“It was funny because I was sitting watching the warm-up last weekend and I didn’t realise there was other lyrics to it as well,” the gaffer told us as he talked about the chant that is currently dominating the stadium stands and terraces.
“There’s the bit about Denno and Morgan Feeney at the back - yeah, fair play to the fans. I’d much rather hear that sort of thing than be getting booed, or people singing at me that Idon’t know what I’m doing or telling me I’m getting sacked in the morning.
“I’ve also been on the receiving end of all of that in my managerial career.”
“It’s brilliant,” he concluded. “It shows that the players are doing things right. I’ll take it, I’ll take the pleasant stuff.
“For me, though, it’s about the players because they’re the ones going out there. Since I came back to the club last season, the group we had then did really well to make ourselves safe.
“This group this year have been absolutely outstanding. Long may that continue. The longer they can make the run it gives the fans a little bit more time to get some more players’ lyrics into it as well.”
