The East Stand at Sixfields could well be on its way to completion with a decision on a land deal exepcted imminently (possibly even in the public domain by the time you read this).

Work on the stand stalled in 2014, but two bids have received 'careful consideration' with fans hoping the long-running saga will be resolved once and for all.

Watch this space, as they say.

An exceptionally mean defence - just the 29 league goals conceded - has been the bedrock of a season that has seen Northampton stick around the top spots almost from day one.

One defeat in their last eight games (away at Rochdale at the end of February) is a demonstration of a team that's enjoying some good form, but they've been made to work hard for a lot of their points with just 42 goals scored - unusual for a team occupying an automatic promotion place.

Familiar face Jack Sowerby was one of a number of players to commit to the Cobblers for next season when he signed another one-year deal last month. Sam Hoskins and Ali Koiki did the same.

And boss Jon Brady completed a busy February when he snapped up former Inter Milan academy product Ryan Nolan until the end of next season, as he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury.

Fraser Horsfall has played his part in keeping things tight at the back, and he's also piled in at the other end with eight goals and two assists from his 38 appearances.

Not bad at all!

A presence in both areas, he's our weekend one to watch.

The Cobblers swept United aside in October 2021 with a convincing 3-0 home win. Paul Lewis netted a hat-trick on the day.

Northampton took the points away from Brunton Park in October 2019 with second half goals from Scott Pollock and Sam Hoskins.

The teams met in January 2019 when the Cobblers claimed a 3-0 home victory. A certain fella called Jack Bridge notched a brace, with Junior Morias also on target for the hosts.

We went up against Northampton for the first time last season in August when the teams played out a 2-2 draw. Jamie Devitt gave the Blues the lead with a stunning strike on the half hour, but Kevin van Veen pulled things level just before the break. Matt Crooks put the visitors ahead midway through the second half, but the lead lasted just 60 seconds as Hallam Hope struck back in the very next attack.

Referee - James Bell
Assistant Referee 1 - Paul Graham
Assistant Referee 2 - Daniel Woodward
Fourth Official - Paul Newhouse
Observer - Jeff Ward

Our referee for this game is Mr James Bell.

He's taken charge of 35 games so far this season and has shown 109 yellows and three reds.

He was at Brunton Park in November 2021 for the 1-1 Papa John's draw with Lincoln. Jack Armer scored the goal, and the Blues won on penalties to claim the bonus point. Callum Guy and Jon Mellish were booked for the hosts.

Papa John's Trophy group action brought Mr Bell north again in August 2021 for a goal-filled 3-3 encounter with Hartlepool. Taylor Charters, Manny Mampala and Tristan Abrahams scored the goals, and the Blues eventually won the shoot-out 4-3. Mampala was our only booking of the night.

Mr Bell was the referee for our home game against Leyton Orient in March 2021. The O's nicked it with a late Connor Wilkinson goal, and there were no home names recorded on the day.

He was our official for the away game at Port Vale in October 2020. Jon Mellish scored the winner and Lewis Alessandra was the only name taken on the day.

In the National League last season, he was the man in the middle for the August play-off final between Harrogate Town and Notts County prior to his pormotion to the league list.
