Brunton Park’s Sporting Inn is set to be renamed Murphy’s Bar, and the occasion is to be marked by a special appearance by the legend himself, Peter Murphy, at around 7pm on Tuesday 1 March.
The bar has received a welcome makeover as part of a project led by Carlisle United Supporters’ Groups (CUSG) which saw fans donate memorabilia and work in partnership with local businesses.
Speaking about the improvements to the bar, CUSG rep and Supporter Liaison Officer Simon Clarkson said: "Everyone has been positive about the difference these refurbishments have made.
"Now it feels more like a football ground bar. The vinyl graphics and frames are a real hit with the fans.”
And on the team effort involved in making the project work, he said: "From fans and the club providing items, to local businesses doing various works, this has been a wonderful team effort.
"Special mentions must go to Myke Nixon framing, Carlisle Glass and HH Reeds, but so many others also played their part.
"CUSG is all about working together and we hope that fans get a lot of pleasure from the improvements."
When asked if he was looking forward to coming back to Brunton Park, Peter Murphy said: "I am honoured to be rewarded for what I achieved by having a bar named after me, and this coinciding with Simmo’s first home game in charge is extra special.
"The buzz around the city is fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing the bar, having some trips down memory lane, meeting the fans and hopefully seeing a win for the Blues."
